Maintaining Wisconsin Business Records

FAQ

Wisconsin statutes require business to keep certain records. Operating a business corporation? Check Wis. Stat. § 180.1601. A limited liability company? Look to Wis. Stat. § 183.0405. In addition to records required by statute, we encourage business owners to document and approve any big structural or financial changes in writing, including signing a new commercial lease, taking out a new loan, or appointing a new officer. In addition, all Wisconsin entities must file an annual report with the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions.
